Do you have a creative mind and find yourself imitating other creative types in the present period and scholars, philosophers and historical figures of the past? There are some creative minds out there that like to compete, which is interesting in that usually the creative mind is not so concerned with what anyone else is doing. Yet these folks exist and it is said that they are about 1-2% of our population and part of the 7-8% of the population that is creative. Luckily in the United States despite all the structure in our laws and society there seems to be a higher percentage here than elsewhere in the world. Many believe this is due to our freedoms and liberty.
Since I am one of those competitive type creative individuals among many other things I would like to explain what some of these 1-2% creative type minds do when competing. Thus again fractionalizing the 1-2% as only some of these do it this way. You see some of the 1-2% do not compete in a formal sense or enter competitions so to speak instead they look at other creative people when not creating themselves and compete in their minds against the innovations of others. Often they end up in some form of competition, but not necessarily by objective but rather by just doing whatever it is they are doing. Such individuals and I am speaking of myself here would like to start research companies to solve a problem they see in the World or re-align a mal-aligned problem that they see.
Who might a person who is of a super competitive mind decide to compete against in today’s world? Well for me I have picked a few folks and watch their innovations and ideas and attempt to better their concepts or figure out better possible alternatives. It is much like the karate kid trying to compete against his master or in this case a set of masters who have plenty of ideas and non-ending new innovations to look at. For my mentor set or rather those I look up to for competitive insight are; Ray Kurzweil, Bill Gates, Leonardo da Vinci, Paul McCready, Burt Rutan on various concepts. There are about ten others in different industries which I study and compete against in my mind. Perhaps you might pick your own virtual challengers or people to help you develop your creative mind competition?
It is like I am saying to myself; "Oh Yah, I can do better than that" and I do not know why I am doing that or why others do this, perhaps this is an innate characteristic of an actualized human mind or just a way to exercise one’s brain? As one does this more and more it is as if they cannot look at anything, read another's work, white paper or consider any innovation, design or concept without immediately going into a competition their minds. This is what I have done and it works for me. I suppose different things work for different minds and human personality displacements. It is funny that one would do this, I respect all these people, perhaps not always their political views, yet highly respect their innovative creativity.
Much of the human mind is based on belief and well, at times I actually feel, that I can do better in some of their concepts, yet, one could say that is an ego-trip and it seems silly to put myself into their level of expertise at the things they do or their innovative concepts, yet then again why not? It is something that I have been wondering about the competitive creative mind and of course my own mind.
Perhaps you have such questions or insights about yourself if you are one of the 7-8% of the population, which is not like the others and possess that creative spark. If you are then perhaps a little mindful competition is worthy. Indeed once you start you may not be able to stop. I cannot seem to stop doing it, it is all in my mind of course, yet my output surpasses all others I can see out there with regard to the range of topics, subjects and industry sectors of the creativity, so it must be a good thing and indeed many of my innovative concepts are coming to fruition which is also very fulfilling from a psychological standpoint I would assume. I know there are others like me out there with creative competitiveness, as I have met a handful in my life and been very impressed and happy to meet them.
You know in all fairness; some of my ideas are lousy, some good, some brilliant, but all are interesting and could lead to another thought to get to brilliance or ultra-brilliant concepts. So if you have innovative ideas and concepts and would like to discuss them, it is okay if a few of them are duds, because the great one is right around the corner, think on this.
